I didn't care for the polemics about art and art techniques. However, if you're looking for the dramatic effect, the play will deliver. Oct 25, Matea rated it it was amazing. I really, really like this one.

It's one of favourite of mines from highschool, and I would like to reread it somewhere in the future, for sure. Jun 18, Sara rated it it was amazing. Pretty well-crafted. Jul 26, Gordan Karlic rated it it was amazing. Honestly, I thought this will be boring af, but I was surprised, for the better might I add. A lot of time I look at Croatian art and I just can't get a suspension of disbelief, but here there is no problem, you can easily imagine a family like that just before The Great War.

Last but not least, this bo Honestly, I thought this will be boring af, but I was surprised, for the better might I add. Last but not least, this book is standing the test of time, because when we see some respectable families today in Croatian it is a mirror image of the Glembays. Will definitively read his other works. Jun 30, A rated it did not like it Shelves: for-school , Sep 13, Darthnixa rated it it was amazing.

At some points difficult to understand, but otherwise perfect. Feb 29, Zeljko rated it really liked it Shelves: classics. Unfortunately I hate reading plays so this was never gonna appeal to me in the first place. It is also too melodramatic at points and I just didn't give a shit about any of the characters. What bumped the rating up from a 1 to a 2. It wasn't shallow at all, but other then that this book was so MEH.

If it wasn't a mandatory read for my literature class I would have dnfed it long ago, but I can't afford myself to fail my class. Anyway, I got another book by the same author next up on my TBR for same reasons, and I hope I will like it more altough I heard it was written in a week and that most people found it to be terrible. My expectations are low but as long as there will be a plot to follow atleast I will be able to make myself finish it.

Over procrastinated but actually interesting. Far too many, and very detailed, descriptions of an era I know nothing about for this part of Europe, and of characters who weren't able to grab my attenion at all. Normally I would love reading about historical facts incorporated in a story, as it would teach me a lot, but not this time. I did finish the book, but for the first time in my life I skimmed through several pages Aug 22, Karolina rated it really liked it.

I understand that many students in Croatia don't enjoy reading most of the books we have to read in school. This was not the case for me while reading him tho. I enjoyed both this and The return of Philip Latinowicz. It was very easy to read, very intriguing and I even read the whole history of the Glembay family that's written in some editions. I would love to read all the plays from the Glembay cycle because I'm very fond of his style of writing.

I would even consider him my favorite Croatian writer Sep 02, lucija rated it really liked it. What a family drama. Aug 31, majstoricamagije rated it liked it Shelves: cro. One more Croatian story of rich, cruel and superficial peoples. Story of powerfull woman who is capable to destroy many destenies. Story which confirm that money isn't recepie for happiness.
